A day in the life of a Residential Childcare Worker brings an opportunity to shape our children’s lives for the better, with each day being unique. Some days involve making fabulous memories with our children, supporting them to get up, be educated, eat well, engage positively in their communities, attend appointments, and enjoy fun activities. Other days may be more challenging due to the complexities our children face, including physical disabilities, illnesses, emotional and mental health struggles, and communication difficulties. These challenges require resilience and commitment but also lead to a great sense of achievement.

Your Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out your duties in a way that always safeguards and promotes the welfare of all children and young people, in accordance with legislation and company policy and procedure.
  • Advocate for our children and uphold their rights at all times.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with our children and key people and agencies in their lives.
  • Support and promote social, recreational, health, and educational activities with the children.
  • Complete the daily routines of the home including cleaning, cooking, and washing.
  • Work with the team daily to ensure the care given to our children is always consistent.
  • Contribute to the children and young people’s care plans.
  • Undertake keyworker responsibilities as required including preparing for and attending statutory reviews and meetings.
  • Attend and complete all training as required within the requisite timescales.
  • Work towards completing your Level 4 Children, Young People and Families Practitioner within 2 years of commencing your employment with us.
  • Keep your senior team up to date of any Safeguarding issues as they occur.
  • Use the provided Reporting and Recording systems to keep timely, clear, and accurate records of your and our children’s daily activities.
  • Understand the 9 Quality Standards and use this knowledge to underpin your daily practice.
  • Uphold a culturally inclusive ethos which actively values and promotes diversity, unity, and community cohesion.
