The Opportunity

University of the Arts London is seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Lecturer to join the UAL Diploma in Creative Computing at the Creative Computing Institute (CCI). As Senior Lecturer in Creative Computing, you will be responsible for teaching, curriculum development, and ongoing scholarship on the UAL Diploma Creative Computing. This course offers an exciting space for interdisciplinary learning set in the context of a world‑renowned creative university. Students from undergraduate courses across the university develop a material understanding of the computational technologies that underpin innovation in both the creative industries and arts and design practices.

You will work collaboratively within a course team, deploying specialist expertise in physical computing/mechatronics to develop pedagogy and the curriculum in innovative and critical directions, helping to stimulate thought and practice that challenges the canon of creative computing with the aim of promoting diversity and inclusion. You will also be responsible for unit leadership, pastoral support, progress and attendance, maintaining records and liaising with colleagues as appropriate.

About You

You will have previous experience of teaching in Higher Education or a comparable context, and in delivering a high-quality student experience, as well as some knowledge of curriculum development and assessment. You should be comfortable working with diverse cohorts of students and committed to a teaching approach that understands the range of student experiences within a course. An MA/MSc or equivalent relevant industry experience in fields associated with Creative Computing or associated subjects is desirable. You will have a strong commitment to the advancement of your discipline, critical discourse and positive social impact and be engaged in relevant networks and communities of practice within this and/or related fields. You will be proactive in utilising and building networks of subject peers, partnerships and collaborations. You work well collaboratively and are keen to foster an inclusive and constructive working environment. You can plan, prioritise and manage resources effectively.

Specific Expertise

  • Hardware, fabrication, and prototyping: microcontroller and embedded systems development (ESP32, Arduino and related platforms, including machine learning for edge devices), digital fabrication (3D printing, laser cutting), physical mechanics (pulleys, gears, motors) and the ability to advise on materials and methods for traditional and rapid prototyping.
  • Creative computing and interactive installations: creative coding tools and environments (e.g. p5.js, TouchDesigner, JavaScript, React) and real-time interactive systems, including installing and configuring setups and providing technical support for prototypes, live installations, exhibitions, and performances.
