The Senior Business Manager is accountable for the full in‑year commercial performance of the Guardian’s newspaper portfolio across UK retail and subscription channels.

About the role
  • Own full in‑year P&L for the newspaper portfolio, including revenue, margin, ARPU, retention and circulation.
  • Work across internal teams to drive subscription acquisitions and retention.
  • Execute pricing and promotional plans to optimise revenue, volume and lifetime value.
  • Drive distribution, visibility and performance across retail channels in the UK and internationally.
  • Act as the commercial lead for in‑year print performance, aligning marketing, editorial and advertising around delivery priorities.
  • Own circulation and revenue forecasting, ensuring accuracy and responsiveness to performance trends.
  • Provide input into print strategy, propositions and pricing frameworks based on trading insight and performance data.
About you
  • Strong commercial leadership experience in subscription, circulation or print/media environments.
  • Proven track record of owning revenue, budgets and trading performance against clear financial targets.
  • Deep understanding of pricing, promotions and yield optimisation.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting and business case development.
  • Ability to operate cross‑functionally, aligning marketing, editorial and commercial stakeholders.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to balance short‑term performance with long‑term value.
