This is a 12‐month fixed‐term contract or internal staff secondment.

About the role
  • Curate images that best represent top stories and breaking news on the Guardian's homepages
  • Create loops from video created by writers and photographers to embed on the homepage
  • Edit photos for clarity, tone, and consistency with brand style
  • Crop and position images to work effectively across devices
  • Collaborate with editors, journalists, and designers to align visuals with headlines and story angles
  • Ensure images are accurate, ethical, and legally compliant
  • React quickly to news developments to keep the homepage visually fresh and compelling
  • Create cut‐outs and composite images using Photoshop, as required
About you
  • Proven experience in picture editing, ideally within the national media
  • Thorough understanding of copyright and image licensing
  • Confidence using Photoshop to edit images and video
  • Knowledge of video editing software would be an advantage
  • Sound knowledge of picture agencies, libraries and online archives
  • Experience of commissioning photography
  • Collaborative, open and inclusive in approach
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ideally you will have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to the role
