MA Narrative Environments at Central Saint Martins is seeking a Lecturer (Grade 5, 0.6 FTE) to join our teaching team across Years 1 and 2. This is an opportunity to shape how a new generation of spatial practitioners design across digital, terrestrial and hybrid environments – worlds that span physical sites, augmented and virtual layers, and the stories and systems that connect them. You will bring expertise across architecture, speculative design, media and production to studio-based teaching, leading tutorials, crits and clinics that push students to develop rigorous, world-building practices.
Working alongside the Course Leader, Stage Leaders, and the teaching team of visiting lecturers and practitioners, you will support students in testing ideas at the intersection of narrative, space and technology – from site-responsive installations to speculative digital-terrestrial systems – and in developing the research and conceptual skills to realise ambitious, cross-disciplinary work. MA Narrative Environments is a leading postgraduate course at the forefront of spatial storytelling, with graduates working across architecture, exhibition design, immersive media and emerging technologies. This role offers the chance to contribute to a course culture defined by experimentation, critical rigour and collaborative practice.
About you
You are a practitioner, researcher or educator with substantial expertise spanning architecture, speculative design, media and production, and a demonstrable interest in how digital, terrestrial and hybrid environments are reshaping spatial and narrative practice. You may work across fields such as immersive media, spatial computing, scenography, world-building or emerging technologies, and your ability to move fluidly between physical and digital registers of practice is key. You have experience teaching or mentoring at postgraduate level, and are confident running tutorials, crits and clinics that stretch students' thinking while equipping them to execute ambitious projects.
You bring generosity and rigour to providing feedback and enjoy working collaboratively within a course team on planning, curriculum development, and RKEI. You are comfortable with ambiguity and speculative thinking and can help students navigate both the conceptual and technical dimensions of hybrid environment design – from production methods to systems-level thinking about narrative and space.
