This role sits within the Proctors' Office which manages student casework for the University. We are a friendly and supportive team of 15 colleagues looking for an experienced manager to support this important and high profile work. The Deputy Head of the Proctors’ Office manages a team of caseworkers, and deputises for the Head of the Proctors’ Office as required. The remit of your team will be academic misconduct and student complaints.
The Proctors’ Office is an impartial and discrete institution within the University, made up of a permanent team that advises and supports the annually elected Proctors and the Assessor in their work. The two Proctors and the Assessor are senior officers and trustees of the University, each elected by a college, typically from amongst its fellowship, to serve for a one-year period. They are given considerable powers to act on the University’s behalf in matters of central importance to its functioning and its reputation.

About the Role
A key focus of this role will be managing a team of Casework Managers who conduct investigations into student academic misconduct, and handle student complaints, extension requests and academic appeals. You will oversee the full case portfolio, taking the lead on the most complex cases while providing expert advice to colleagues. You will ensure all cases are managed professionally, proportionately, and within specified regulatory timeframes, in line with University regulations, policies and codes of practice, as well as the expectations of the Office for Students (OfS) and the Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA).
About You
You will be required to demonstrate strong casework management skills alongside excellent organisational, analytical and communication skills. You must be able to develop an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the relevant rules and regulations as well as the University’s education policy framework and governance structure. You will use this knowledge to make well‑informed, timely and reasonable decisions on student cases, working closely with senior decision‑makers. You will also be required to work effectively with students and staff across the collegiate University, providing advice on relevant University procedures, decisions and risk. The ability to demonstrate sound judgement, tact and discretion is essential, particularly when handling highly sensitive and confidential matters.
