We are excited to offer the Hospitality Apprentice role within the Speaker's Office as part of our Speaker's Apprenticeship Academy. Now in its third year, the Academy supports early career talent and helps widen opportunities within the House Service.
You'll gain valuable experience working in UK Parliament, at the heart of British democracy all while developing skills in a unique and fast-paced environment. You don't need to be a politics expert. We welcome applicants who are early in their careers and not in full-time education. You must be aged 18 or over by the end of the summer holidays.
As a Hospitality Apprentice (Level 2 Hospitality Customer Service Practitioner), you'll support the Speaker's Office in delivering a high-quality hospitality and events service within the historic State Rooms of the Palace of Westminster. You'll help welcome guests, prepare and serve refreshments, and support the delivery of a wide range of meetings, visits and events, including formal banqueting occasions. Working closely with colleagues across the House of Commons, you'll assist with event planning, logistics and administration, helping to ensure activities run smoothly and to the highest standards of professionalism and protocol. You'll also help maintain the presentation of the State Rooms and contribute to providing an exceptional experience for guests, acting as an ambassador for the Speaker's Office and the wider House Service.
This is a fixed-term apprenticeship lasting 2 Years. You won't be expected to know everything from day one, you'll receive training, mentoring and ongoing support throughout the programme to help you develop your skills, build your confidence and gain valuable experience in hospitality, events and customer service. Due to the nature of the role, you'll be based on-site and may occasionally be required to work late evenings to support events and official functions.

Qualifications: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be eligible for this role. You must not already hold the same or similar qualifications. If you have a degree or a qualification in a similar subject to the apprenticeship, please contact the Apprenticeships Team as you may be ineligible to apply. Learners aged 18 must pass Level 2 Functional Skills exams in English and Maths to complete their apprenticeship if they do not already have a grade C/4 or above in these subjects.
Experience, Skills and Knowledge:
- A passion to work in the hospitality industry and an understanding of requirements to work under pressure to deliver fantastic customer service.
- An understanding of why customer service skills are so important in the industry, with the ability to respond quickly to customer needs.
- Able to communicate clearly with colleagues and visitors, both in writing and in person, with a willingness to learn how to adapt communication for different situations.
- Enjoys working with others, values different perspectives, understands the importance of diversity and inclusion, and is open to learning from feedback.
- Has basic experience using Microsoft Office (such as Word, Outlook or Teams) and is interested in developing new digital skills.
- Able to stay organised, follow agreed processes, and ask for help when unsure. Understands the importance of confidentiality when handling information.
