At Totally Local Company, an opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Operative 2 who possesses a professional demeanour, sound judgement and integrity to join our Street Care team, covering nights.
Key Responsibilities
- Cleansing: Undertake cleansing duties allocated by the supervisor in accordance with agreed procedures to defined standards. Duties include sweeping, cleaning, litter picking, emptying litter bins, removal of weeds and all types of debris and refuse, cleaning of road signs and litter bins, and removal of graffiti and fly posting or other offensive material.
- Grounds: Undertake general maintenance duties in green areas including highway verges, landscaped areas, planted areas, council properties, recreation areas, cemeteries, schools and other public amenities. Carry out operational duties including hand weeding, weed spraying, mowing grass, pruning, hedge cutting, planting, seeding, turfing, and maintaining recreational and sports facilities.
- General: Undertake winter maintenance duties including manual gritting, filling and siting of grit bins and snow/ice clearance. Assist in the recycling of waste collected. Work as part of a team, directly answering to the supervisor. Undertake duties in a safe and responsible manner in accordance with established safe systems of work, policies and procedures. Carry out basic health and safety checks for self and machinery used. Work with a range of mechanical equipment including gardening, street cleansing machinery, portable hand tools and industrial power washers. Be responsible for daily checks, cleaning and defect reporting for all equipment used. Report any matters concerning the maintenance of a clean environment. Ensure that at all times the Company, clients and service are represented in a positive and professional manner. Undertake any future skill specific training to allow the development and delivery of the business unit. Work within various sections of the department to ensure maximum range knowledge and experience is gained.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Hold a C1 driving licence and be able to drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes.
- Experience in working to and achieving operational targets.
- Ability to maintain high quality horticultural features and achieve street cleansing standards.
- Knowledge and understanding of street cleansing/horticultural standards, working methods and equipment deployed within the Greenspace and Street care service.
- Ensure the application of Health and Safety working practice.
