Totally Local Company Ltd are currently looking to recruit a Horticulture/Grounds Maintenance Apprentice to be based in Stockport. You will join a skilled and experienced gardening team and will receive on-the-job training in Grounds Maintenance duties, including sweeping, litter picking, and the use of manual tools for weeding and pruning.
You will also receive full training on grounds machinery and grass cutting equipment. Further training opportunities, including Spraying qualifications and Health & Safety qualifications, will be provided within the workplace.
The process will include an assessment for Maths and English, and training will be provided in the workplace by a college provider working towards the Horticulture & Landscape Operative Level 2 (Standard). Application Deadline: July 11, 2025

Duties and Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for the application of Health and Safety practices, and the safe use of plant and machinery.
- Ensure all records concerning the safe use of chemicals, including pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers, are kept up to date.
- Undertake winter maintenance duties, including manual gritting, filling and siting of grit bins, and snow/ice clearance as required.
- Assist in recycling waste collected, wherever possible.
- Carry out basic health and safety checks for yourself, team members, and machinery used.
- Work with a range of mechanical and electrical equipment, including gardening, street cleansing machinery, portable hand tools, and industrial power washers.
- Undertake any future skill-specific training to support the development and delivery of the business unit.
- Work within various sections of the department to ensure maximum knowledge and experience are gained.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
- Enthusiastic with the ability to become competent in various gardening duties, including the use of specialized equipment.
- English Level 1 & Maths Level 1.
- Ability to undertake general gardening duties involving manual work and machinery.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and participate within teams and across organizational boundaries.
- Effective communication skills.
