Total Energies Marketing UK is a major bitumen marketer in the U.K. with typical sales > 300 kT/yr – of which 40-50 kT/yr are expected to be manufactured in the Preston specialities plant. The customers include major construction companies, private asphalt producers, emulsion producers, industrial clients, and local and national government authorities. The nature of the bitumen business puts very critical demands on the supply chain to ensure safe and efficient handling of products which are mostly at elevated temperatures (130-200°C), requiring strict standards.

Plant production environment comprising: Site DCS system, tank farm, 2 process plants (Emulsion / PMB), 2 blender loading points, 1 fume treatment unit, 1 steam generator, 2 thermo oil heaters, various sub-distribution installations, various electric motors on pumps, instrument air compressors, agitated vessels, road tanker loading & off-loading stations.

Activities:

  • Carrying out various plant production process tasks with all appropriate controls and monitoring, adhering to company regulations/standards with particular regard to HSEQ to ensure compliance with safety protocols at all times.
  • Following without deviation all written procedures/work instructions specific to the tasks being carried out, using the parameters and manufacturing methods as detailed in prevailing Process Flow Charts (PFCs).
  • Using the DCS to monitor and control flows, temperatures, pressures, and other process parameters on the plant.
  • Controlling emulsion tank temperatures and monitoring daily emulsion tank testing requirements.
  • Completing in-process and finished QC testing, in line with defined PFC.
  • Communicating and interacting with the Plant Supervisor and other colleagues, reporting to Operations and HSEQ on faults/anomalies/near misses/other safety and/or quality concerns and addressing any such issues as they arise.
  • Participating in formal shift handover meetings.
  • Recording accurately all process activities in line with companies documented processes, resulting in relevant logs and batch sheets.
  • Monitoring, blending, and transferring of feedstocks and finished products to/from road tankers and storage tanks.
  • Providing oversight of drivers, contractors, and other “visiting personnel” when on site, as required.
  • Maintaining housekeeping standards throughout the plant and undertaking planned inspections, as required.
  • Carrying out all daily, weekly, and monthly tasks assigned through the maintenance management system, ensuring they are completed accurately and on time.
  • Ensuring all completed work is signed off in the system promptly.
  • Assisting the Maintenance Department with moving and removing waste and materials across the site.
  • Assisting the Operations team with loading and off-loading dry goods, IBCs, and any other materials as required.
  • Monitoring and controlling various parts of the “utilities” systems such as thermal heaters, boilers and support equipment, the waste off-gas systems and recovered oils, catch pit, operation of the compressed air system and the Mowlem Fume extraction plant etc.
  • Other tasks as directed by management and/or supervisors.

Candidate Profile:

  • Experience of safe plant & manufacturing operations, preferably experience of bitumen operations.
  • Understanding of all safety, quality & environmental systems.
  • Trained in specific tasks, including fork truck training (if required).
  • Ability to carry out daily tasks, to sequence and timelines.
  • A strong communicator.
  • Education: basic English; basic Maths; basic IT literacy.
