Are you an experienced Transport Manager with a valid National Transport Manager CPC looking for your next opportunity? We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established business in Sheffield seeking a motivated and commercially minded Transport Manager to lead its transport operation and ensure the safe, compliant and efficient management of its HGV fleet. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with proven experience in transport management, Operator Licence compliance, DVSA regulations, fleet compliance, vehicle maintenance, and transport operations.
The Role
As Transport Manager, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day transport operation, ensuring full legal compliance, maximising fleet efficiency and maintaining high standards of safety and customer service.
- Manage the daily operation of the HGV and commercial vehicle fleet.
- Act as the nominated Transport Manager on the Operator Licence.
- Ensure full compliance with DVSA regulations, Operator Licence (O Licence) requirements and UK transport legislation.
- Oversee vehicle servicing, MOTs, PMIs, defect reporting and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Manage driver compliance, licence checks, tachograph and drivers' hours regulations.
- Monitor fleet utilisation, vehicle availability and operational performance.
- Liaise with drivers, workshop teams and external maintenance providers.
- Maintain accurate transport records, compliance documentation and fleet management systems.
- Monitor transport KPIs, maintenance costs, fuel usage and budgets.
- Drive continuous improvement across the transport operation while promoting a strong health and safety culture.
About You
You’ll have experience in one or more of the following roles: Transport Manager, Senior Transport Planner, Transport Operations Manager, Fleet Manager, Logistics Manager, Distribution Manager, Transport Compliance Manager, HGV Fleet Manager, Operations Manager.
Experience within any of the following sectors would be advantageous: Logistics, Distribution, Waste Management, Construction, Manufacturing, Utilities, Civil Engineering, Heavy Industry.
Essential Requirements
- National Transport Manager CPC (Essential).
- Proven experience as a Transport Manager managing HGV transport operations.
- Excellent knowledge of DVSA regulations, Operator Licence compliance, and UK transport legislation.
- Strong understanding of drivers' hours, tachograph regulations and transport compliance.
- Experience managing fleet maintenance, vehicle compliance and operational performance.
- Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
- Commercial awareness with experience managing transport budgets and KPIs.
- Strong IT skills, including transport management systems and Microsoft Office.
