An experienced Operations Supervisor / Yard Manager is required to lead the day-to-day operations of a busy waste management and recycling facility. This is an excellent opportunity for an established Yard Manager or Operations Supervisor.
Salary: £50,000 basic salary
Hours: 7am - 5pm Monday to Friday
Location: Halton, Lancaster, Heysham and surrounding areas
The Role: As Operations Supervisor / Yard Manager, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient day-to-day running of a busy waste management and recycling operation, ensuring high standards of productivity, compliance, and team performance.
- Supervising the intake, processing, storage, and dispatch of waste and recyclable materials.
- Leading, motivating, and supporting yard and production operatives to achieve daily operational targets.
- Coordinating plant, machinery, and equipment to ensure efficient and safe operations.
- Promoting and maintaining high standards of Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality compliance across the site.
- Monitoring operational performance and identifying opportunities to improve productivity and efficiency.
- Assisting with operational planning, stock control, and resource allocation.
- Supporting the Site Manager with the day-to-day management of the facility and ensuring smooth site operations.
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Experience within the scrap metal, waste management, recycling, aggregates, quarrying, manufacturing, production, logistics, or other heavy industrial sectors.
- Previous experience in a supervisory, team leader, yard manager, or shift management role.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop operational teams.
- A proactive approach with excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- A commitment to maintaining high standards of Health & Safety.
- IOSH or NEBOSH certification.
Desirable:
- COTC/WAMITAB qualification.
- A full UK driving licence.
This opportunity would suit candidates who have previously worked as Operations Supervisor, Yard Manager, Recycling Supervisor, Waste Site Supervisor, Shift Manager, Production Supervisor, Plant Supervisor, Team Leader, Assistant Site Manager, or Assistant Operations Manager. Candidates from waste management, recycling, scrap metal, biomass, wood waste, plastics, construction & demolition waste, aggregates, quarrying, manufacturing, logistics, processing plants, or similar heavy industrial environments are encouraged to apply.
