We are currently recruiting for a hazardous waste site chemist or chemistry graduate with a desire for a less lab-based, outdoors on-site role in the West Midlands.

Location: Northwest side of Birmingham

Salary: £28K for graduates, up to £35K for hazardous waste experience.

Experience: Ideally you will have experience in the hazardous waste industry as a reception chemist, site chemist, technical assessor, chempac or hazpak chemist, mobile chemist or similar. Graduates open to outdoors, manual work are also considered.

Role: You will be based in the yard around 75% of the time with only around 15% of the role based in the lab. You will unload HGV loads of hazardous waste materials (using forklift where required) that have been collected from customers, ensuring it is what it is supposed to be using bucket chemistry and some lab work, and preparing it to be bulked with other similar wastes and stored safely, based on their chemical properties. You will also manage bulked loads due to leave the site for processing.

Experience: You will have an HNC in Chemistry minimum, ideally a degree. Degrees with Chemistry directly in the title (e.g. Biochemistry) or those that contain 4 modules that have Chemistry in the title such as Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry etc. will be considered if a module list can be provided. You will have a UK Driving Licence. Any FLT / Forklift operation experience is a plus but training will be given. Knowledge of hazardous waste or environmental regulations is preferred. Strong organisational and record-keeping skills are essential. Ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment is required.
