The Technical Sales Estimator will support the sales and project delivery functions by providing accurate, competitive, and commercially viable quotations and cost estimates including engineering appraisals for commercial vehicle bodywork and specialist vehicle projects aligned with customer requirements and business objectives.

Working closely with customers, suppliers, engineering, procurement, and production teams, the successful candidate will develop a strong understanding of commercial vehicle bodybuilding solutions, manufacturing processes, and technical applications to ensure quotations are technically accurate, commercially competitive, and support profitable business growth.

This is a development role with genuine progression opportunities into Sales Engineering or Application Engineering through structured training, experience, and increased responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and quotations for vehicle body builds, modifications, refurbishments and associated engineering projects.
  • Review customer specifications, drawings, tender documents and technical requirements to determine project scope.
  • Liaise with engineering and production teams to understand labour requirements, manufacturing methods and material usage.
  • Source and assess supplier pricing, material requirements, labour content, and subcontract costs to develop accurate cost estimates and commercially competitive quotations.
  • Identify and communicate commercial risks and opportunities within tender and quotation submissions.
  • Maintain estimating records, pricing databases and historical cost information.
  • Develop pricing proposals that meet customer requirements while maintaining business profitability.
  • Support the sales team with technical and commercial information during customer discussions.
  • Participate in customer meetings and site visits where required.
  • Assist in the preparation of tender submissions and supporting documentation.
  • Monitor estimate accuracy by reviewing completed project costs against original quotations.
  • Act as a technical point of contact for customers, supporting enquiries at all stages by understanding requirements, providing technical guidance, supporting tender submissions, and helping develop solutions that meet customer and business objectives.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the estimating and commercial functions.
  • Ensure compliance with company quality, health and safety, and environmental procedures.

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience within commercial vehicle manufacturing, body building, fleet engineering, transport equipment, automotive, engineering, or a similar manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in estimating, costing, or a commercial role would be advantageous.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Good understanding of materials, labour costing and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple quotations simultaneously.
  • Commercial awareness and high attention to detail.
  • The ability to follow and improve standard processes.
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of tendering processes and contract review.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using ERP, MRP or estimating software systems.
