They are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join their team. You will develop safe, compliant and cost-effective electrical designs for water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with water-sector experience who understands the importance of design assurance, buildability, operational resilience and clear technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver electrical designs from feasibility and outline design through to detailed design, construction support and handover.
  • Produce and review electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, schedules and technical reports.
  • Develop designs for LV distribution, motor control centres, control panels, variable-speed drives, generators, UPS systems, lighting, earthing, lightning protection and associated infrastructure.
  • Prepare load assessments, cable-sizing calculations, protection studies, discrimination studies and equipment schedules.
  • Ensure designs comply with clients requirements, AMP8 delivery standards, CDM Regulations and applicable British and international standards.
  • Prepare electrical design information and supporting evidence for CAF submissions and governance reviews.
  • Contribute to option selection, whole-life cost assessments, risk evaluations and technical recommendations.
  • Work closely with civil, mechanical, process, ICA, operations, environmental and construction teams.
  • Attend site surveys, design reviews, HAZOP studies, constructability reviews and commissioning meetings.
  • Identify design risks, assumptions, constraints, interfaces and opportunities at an early stage.
  • Incorporate safety, maintainability, energy efficiency, carbon reduction and operational resilience into every design.
  • Respond to technical queries and support procurement, installation, testing and commissioning activities.
  • Maintain accurate design records and ensure documentation is produced, reviewed and approved in accordance with project procedures.
  • Support the preparation of as-built information, operating documentation and handover packages.

Required Skills

  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering.
  • Proven electrical design experience within the water, wastewater or another regulated process industry.
  • Experience of delivering designs through feasibility, outline and detailed design stages.
  • Good knowledge of LV power distribution, motor control, protection, earthing and electrical safety.
  • Working knowledge of BS 7671 and other relevant electrical engineering standards.
  • Understanding of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
  • Ability to produce clear calculations, specifications, drawings, technical reports and design decision records.
  • Experience working within structured technical assurance and document-control processes.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with designers, contractors, suppliers and operational stakeholders.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to visit operational water and wastewater sites.
