About the Role

Total Staff are recruiting for a Multi-Trade Maintenance Operative (Electrical Bias) to join a flagship cluster of student accommodation properties across the Whitechapel and Farringdon areas.

This is a key role in a high-performing facilities team - ideal for someone with strong electrical skills who is confident working across a variety of building maintenance tasks. You will support five modern PBSA buildings, ensuring they remain safe, compliant, and well-maintained, while delivering a high standard of service to residents and staff.

We are looking for someone who is technically capable, customer-focused, and comfortable working independently across multiple buildings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical Maintenance
  • Carry out electrical repairs, fault-finding, and testing across student accommodation buildings
  • Diagnose and repair issues involving lighting, power, small power circuits, isolators, and control equipment
  • Complete planned preventative electrical maintenance in line with compliance standards
  • Support periodic testing and statutory checks where required
  • Multi-Trade & General Maintenance
    • Complete day-to-day maintenance tasks across plumbing, basic carpentry, and general building fabric
    • Assist with repairs to fixtures, fittings, door furniture, appliances, and communal areas
    • Support room inspections, snagging and turnaround works (January + Summer periods)
    • Respond to reactive maintenance requests logged via PDA/CAFM systems
  • Compliance & Safety
    • Ensure all works are carried out safely and in line with company procedures
    • Maintain accurate maintenance records and update job tickets
    • Carry out routine plant checks and support statutory compliance works
    • Escalate high-risk issues and support contractors on-site
  • Cluster Support
    • Work across five nearby properties, providing a shared maintenance resource
    • Engage professionally with students, staff, and stakeholders
    • Assist the Facilities Team Leader with workload planning during busy periods

    Ideal Candidate

    • NVQ Level 2 (or above) in Electrical Installation / Electrical Maintenance (essential)
    • Additional trade skills (e.g., plumbing, carpentry, decorating, basic HVAC) are highly desirable
    • Experience in student accommodation, residential buildings, hotels, or commercial facilities
    • Strong fault-finding ability with a safe and methodical approach
    • Comfortable working alone or as part of a wider team
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills
    • Full UK driving licence (required for cluster travel)
