About the Role
Total Staff are recruiting for a Multi-Trade Maintenance Operative (Electrical Bias) to join a flagship cluster of student accommodation properties across the Whitechapel and Farringdon areas.
This is a key role in a high-performing facilities team - ideal for someone with strong electrical skills who is confident working across a variety of building maintenance tasks. You will support five modern PBSA buildings, ensuring they remain safe, compliant, and well-maintained, while delivering a high standard of service to residents and staff.
We are looking for someone who is technically capable, customer-focused, and comfortable working independently across multiple buildings.
Key Responsibilities
- Electrical Maintenance
- Carry out electrical repairs, fault-finding, and testing across student accommodation buildings
- Diagnose and repair issues involving lighting, power, small power circuits, isolators, and control equipment
- Complete planned preventative electrical maintenance in line with compliance standards
- Support periodic testing and statutory checks where required
- Complete day-to-day maintenance tasks across plumbing, basic carpentry, and general building fabric
- Assist with repairs to fixtures, fittings, door furniture, appliances, and communal areas
- Support room inspections, snagging and turnaround works (January + Summer periods)
- Respond to reactive maintenance requests logged via PDA/CAFM systems
- Ensure all works are carried out safely and in line with company procedures
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and update job tickets
- Carry out routine plant checks and support statutory compliance works
- Escalate high-risk issues and support contractors on-site
- Work across five nearby properties, providing a shared maintenance resource
- Engage professionally with students, staff, and stakeholders
- Assist the Facilities Team Leader with workload planning during busy periods
Ideal Candidate
- NVQ Level 2 (or above) in Electrical Installation / Electrical Maintenance (essential)
- Additional trade skills (e.g., plumbing, carpentry, decorating, basic HVAC) are highly desirable
- Experience in student accommodation, residential buildings, hotels, or commercial facilities
- Strong fault-finding ability with a safe and methodical approach
- Comfortable working alone or as part of a wider team
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Full UK driving licence (required for cluster travel)
