On behalf of our client, we are recruiting for an Engineering Manager. The Engineering Manager will organise, lead, coordinate and direct a multi-discipline design engineering team (including technical, safety case and supply chain as applicable) that delivers engineering work packages (specification, analysis, verification or assessment of engineering). Our Client is currently employed in a number of fast-paced and exciting projects for the design of nuclear gloveboxes for analysis and R&D work, including handling of SNM and MoX material. This work is for a number of different clients in the UK and the candidate will be deployed onto one of these. Experience in nuclear glovebox design, commissioning or operations would be a benefit. Experience in SNM or MoX plants would also be a benefit. The candidate must be comfortable working on UK defence projects.
Location: Warrington or Abingdon (hybrid)
Accountabilities:
- Ensuring work portfolio is delivered and controlled efficiently and effectively to meet agreed specification, cost and schedule.
- Ensuring design solutions are fit for purpose, integrated, affordable and deliver the business case, functional specification and project execution plan.
- Ensuring all technical, safety and engineering risks are identified, owned and managed.
- Ensuring status and performance of work is accurately and timely reported.
- Ensuring appropriate and adequate design standards and practices are deployed and deliverables and solutions generated are safe, legal and adequately underpinned.
- Ensuring competent people are deployed and periodic forecasting of resources are accurate and timely.
- Ensuring design resource strategy is implemented within portfolio.
- Ensuring design key roles are filled with SQEPped and competent people and the duties of the CDM coordinator adequately discharged.
- Ensuring subject matter experts are appropriately and adequately engaged in a timely manner and LFE is captured, disseminated and utilised.
Authorities:
- To work within financial delegations.
- To assign approval of technical content of design deliverables to competent persons or groups.
- To make recommendations on make / buy decisions and selection / appointment and agreement of supply chain organisation.
- To approve the engineering strategy, cost estimate and schedule for specific areas of responsibility.
- Prioritisation and allocation of work assignments for team and production of design deliverables.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Minimum – BEng (Hons)
- Preferred – MEng (Hons)
Professional Membership:
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Fellow (FEng)
NOTE: Equivalent experience can be offered in lieu of chartership if it is deemed appropriate by the Head of Engineering.
Experience:
- 7 years within the previous 10 years working in roles where knowledge of engineering was a key attribute. In addition, the last 5 years will have been working within a regulated and quality assured system (preferably nuclear) in roles where professional engineering judgement is the key attribute.
- Preferred requirement - 8 years within the last 10 years in engineering design.
- Experience of chairing governance reviews, design reviews and any other gate reviews to accept designs, strategies and provide technical governance.
Additional:
The successful candidate must, by the start of the employment, have permission to work in the UK, and be willing to undergo a security vetting process. Offers of employment will be subject to relevant security clearance being granted. Close working relationships with other sites and client sites may be required, which necessitates regular travel to those sites (dependent upon project & client requirements).
