On behalf of our Client, we are recruiting for a Principal Mechanical Engineer. Within the Engineering team, the Lead Mechanical Engineer will integrate operational engineering multi-discipline teams delivering projects at various phases, from FEED to commissioning, or in assistance to Plant Operation in the UK.
Role and Responsibilities
- Ensuring appropriate and adequate design standards and practices are deployed and deliverables and solutions generated are safe, legal and adequately underpinned.
- Ensuring that appropriate design review activities are performed in a timely manner.
- Ensuring subject matter experts are appropriately and adequately engaged in a timely manner and LFE captured, disseminated and utilised.
- Managing technical studies related to mechanical handling for both handling operations and heavy mechanical transfer systems, powder mechanical processes (transport, milling, and compaction) in high active environment and gloveboxes, compaction and mechanical dismantling technologies.
- Managing the design of mechanical processes, from strategic and conceptual phases to detailed design and construction & commissioning phase support. Typical deliverables will be issued: technical note, substantiation notes, mechanical flow diagrams and flow-sheets, mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and mechanical layout drawings, hazards and malfunctions management, technical specification documentation review from supply chain.
- Travel may be required on occasion between Client's sites.

Preferred Role Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or other relevant degree.
- 10+ Years’ experience as a Mechanical Engineer.
- Experience of engineering design (development, FEED, detailed design, technical specification, documentation review from supply chain) in the nuclear industry or other regulated sectors.
- Experience of mechanical studies delivery (Mechanical handling, powder technologies) considering manufacture, testing, construction commissioning, operation, maintenance recovery and decommissioning aspects.
- Experience of contractor follow-up in the nuclear industry or other regulated sectors.
- Experience of delivering projects for Sellafield or Magnox sites (desirable).
- Member of relevant professional body.
- Recognized Subject Matter Expert (SME).
- Hold a minimum of ‘SC’ UK Security Clearance.
- Previous experience in a Nuclear Site or other highly regulated site.
