Our client is a family run business based in the East end of Glasgow. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Estimator. This role would potentially suit a graduate with a few years post experience, although a degree is not essential. If you have some experience within a technical environment, construction, engineering or manufacturing and have strong analytical, computing system skills, coupled with strong communication skills, this role may be for you.

Job Overview

Seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Trainee Estimator to join a dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in assisting the MD & FD in the preparation and submission of accurate cost estimates for projects, ensuring that all aspects of the project are accounted for.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with reviewing the project plans, specifications, and related documents to prepare detailed cost estimates.
  • Working alongside the MD to collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to gather necessary information for accurate estimations.
  • Conduct thorough market research to determine current material and labour costs.
  • Develop and maintain cost databases to streamline future estimating processes.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports outlining estimated costs, including materials, labour, overheads, and profit margins.
  • Work with the MD to monitor project budgets throughout the lifecycle to ensure adherence to cost control measures.
  • Assist in identifying potential risks and opportunities related to project costs.
  • Provide support during the bidding process by preparing bid proposals and presentations.

Experience

  • Worked in a similar role within the construction, engineering or manufacturing industry is preferred.
  • Proficiency in using estimating software and tools for accurate calculations.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively with various teams.
  • A relevant degree or qualification in construction management, engineering, or a related field is advantageous but not essential.

Monday to Friday, 9-5pm
