Our client is a prestigious FMCG company based in West Dunbartonshire and Glasgow. An exciting project has arisen for a contract Analytical Scientist to join their well established team. Duration of this role is until the end of September, then it will be reviewed. It requires an immediate start and commitment to cover the next 10 weeks. The role is initially based in the Dumbarton location, then moving onto the Glasgow site. Hours of work - Monday to Thursday 8.00am - 4.30pm, Friday 8.00am - 1.00pm. Hourly rate £21.30 per hour.

Purpose: To carry out analysis of company raw ingredients, intermediates, and final new make distillate. Use laboratory LIMS system and follow HMRC procedures. Maintain and calibrate instruments within the lab and other relevant departments as required. Ensure records and documents are maintained to documented procedures.

Scope:

  • Perform routine analysis on a range of samples within laboratory following documented SOPs.
  • Maintain instruments and calibrate instruments.
  • Collect daily samples for analysis following sampling procedures.
  • Report results as required to distillery management team.
  • Liaise with various departments within the business and external companies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the quality of the analyses performed provides an efficient and timely response in respect of company intermediate and finished products.
  • Ensure that laboratory and other departmental equipment and instrumentation is appropriately calibrated and maintained.
  • Preparing reports and KPI information.
  • Liaise with the business to ensure all sample results are reported accurately and on time.
  • Assist with preparation of samples and setting up sample sequences on instruments.
  • Operate and verify best practice analytical methods and procedures.
  • Ensure all lab glassware washed and stored correctly.
  • Accountable for the quantity and quality of personal output.
  • Ensure all documents and records (including training records) are maintained.
  • Undertake all laboratory analytical activities in a manner consistent with the Company's Health, Safety and Environmental Policy and Procedures, and the Laboratory Quality Management Systems.

Experience Required:

  • A degree in a relevant scientific discipline preferred but other relevant qualifications considered.
  • Practical experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) preferred.
  • Proficient in the use and understanding of basic wet chemistry, and analytical instrumental techniques (e.g, GC-MS, GC-FID, HPLC, etc.).
  • An enthusiastic and ambitious learner with the ability to work on own initiative is mandatory.
  • Capable of working with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
  • Responsive and flexible in coping with necessary changes in priorities.
  • A team player possessing good interpersonal skills to liaise across various departments.
  • Maintain good laboratory practice at all times.
  • Knowledge of COSHH and H&S practices applicable in a laboratory environment.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Holding a current valid driving license is a prerequisite.
