Introduction
The role involves hands‑on experience in manufacturing switchboard enclosures from sheet steel, including punching, folding and fabrication processes carried out in‑house. This provides a practical foundation in engineering, production techniques and industry standards within a specialist electrical manufacturing environment.
About the Employer
At Total Power we manufacture LV Switchgear for various industries, including data centres, healthcare, building services etc. We manufacture all of our own switchboards in sheet steel. We are a small team of 12 in fabrication and we are keen to add an apprentice to learn skills from our experienced fabrication team. Opportunities would also be available to learn CNC machinery alongside fabrication, as we have had learners who have moved into machining after fabrication.
What You’ll Do
As a Level 2 Fabrication and Welding Apprentice, you will develop the practical skills and knowledge required to manufacture high‑quality metal enclosures and components. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will gain hands‑on experience in a production environment while supporting the fabrication process from start to finish.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret engineering drawings to understand specifications and requirements.
- Operate cutting and drilling machinery safely and effectively.
- Carry out MIG welding processes to join sheet metal components.
- Assemble fabricated parts into finished enclosures in line with design specifications.
- Inspect and measure components to ensure they meet quality standards.
- Maintain a safe and organised working environment.
