Job Description
TotalEnergies Marketing UK is a major bitumen marketer in the UK, with typical sales >300 kT/yr - of which 40-50kT/yr is expected to be manufactured in the Preston specialities plant. The customers include major construction companies, private asphalt producers, emulsion producers and industrial clients as well as local and national government authorities. The nature of the bitumen business puts very critical demands on the supply chain to ensure safe and efficient handling of products which are mostly at elevated temperatures (130-200 degrees C), requiring strict standards.
Plant production environment compromising: Site DCS system, tank farm, 2 process plants (Emulsions/PMB), 2 blender loading points, 1 fume treatment unit, 1 steam generator, 2 thermo oil heaters, various sub-distribution installations; various electric motors on pumps, instrument air compressors and agitated vessels, road tanker loading & off-loading stations.
Activities
- Ensure that company regulations and standards are complied with by all staff, contractors, and visitors, regarding HSEQ and Security, including the reporting of Near Miss, Incidents, Safety Concerns, Green Alerts and suspicious activity.
- Supervising - managing and coordinating the production operation to ensure that all procedures and quality checks are strictly adhered to, with the appropriate controls and monitoring, to prevent any safety and/or environmental event. Communication if any issue, including to customer delivery schedule because of all production / operation issues.
- Operation and control of the various plant processes, as required, following all written procedures/work instructions specific to the tasks being conducted and to ensure that all work tasks are recorded as such.
- Immediate on-site responsibility for the plant outside normal working hours - this includes the safety and conduct of staff and contractors on site, appropriately managing calls from customers, neighbours, emergency services and legal entities, as well as performing a critical role in the emergency response plan.
- Planning and leading shift handover meetings to ensure all necessary information is recorded, discussed, and understood by relevant personnel.
- Maintaining record checks (batch sheets, blender records etc.) to ensure that products are manufactured in accordance with the relevant Process Flow Charts (PFCs) and to ensure that in-process and final release QC tests are conducted with results within specification before product is dispatched from the site. In the event of non-conforming product, to take appropriate action in line with technical guidance.
- Monitor and control various parts of the 'utilities' systems such as thermal heaters boilers and support equipment, the waste off gas systems and recovered oils, catch pit, operation of the compressed air system and the Mowlem Fume extraction plant.
- Responsible for issuing permits in accordance with the Work Control System, along with the coordination and control of all such permits.
- Ensure all housekeeping regimes and planned inspections are conducted and that the plant is kept in a clean and safe condition at all times.
- Ensure any safety event is correctly reported and that appropriate, immediate, corrective actions are implemented (and recorded)
- Liaise directly with maintenance department regarding breakdowns. Initiate and follow up Maintenance Request Forms as required and ensure that where engineering, cleaning or other work is being conducted on the plant, all relevant personnel are made aware and any risks associated with the running of the plant are communicated and understood.
- Active participation in the implementation of the Company's requirements for the accreditation of its quality; environmental and safety systems.
- Ensure that training programmes initiated by the Head of Operations are conducted when required.
- Any other tasks as directed by line management.
Candidate Profile
- Experience of safe plant & manufacturing operations, within a bitumen operation
- Understanding of all safety, quality, and environmental systems
- Trained in specific tasks, including fork truck training (if required)
- Ability to carry out daily tasks, to sequence and timelines
- Line management and / or supervisory skills
- String communicator at all levels
- Education: basic in English, math, and IT literacy
- Forklift Truck license advantageous
