Salary: £26,427–£26,847 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am–3:30pm

We are recruiting a Site Officer for a welcoming and supportive school in Thetford.
This is a varied, hands‑on position for someone who enjoys practical work and takes pride in creating a safe, secure and well‑maintained environment. You will report to the Operations Officer and look after the school’s day‑to‑day maintenance, security and general site requirements.
What you’ll be doing
- Completing general maintenance and minor repairs around the school
- Carrying out basic plumbing and other practical tasks
- Identifying faults and reporting work that requires a specialist contractor
- Conducting routine health and safety checks
- Maintaining accurate maintenance, inspection and compliance records
- Supporting the security of the premises, including key-holder responsibilities
- Monitoring alarms, access points and other security systems
- Helping to maintain the school grounds and outdoor areas
- Moving furniture, receiving deliveries and providing general porterage
- Working with contractors and other service providers
- Using email and digital systems to record completed work
- Responding appropriately to hazards, faults and emergencies
What we’re looking for
Previous experience in a maintenance, facilities, caretaking or similar practical role would be ideal, although formal trade qualifications are not required.
More importantly, you should be:
- Practical and confident using tools
- Capable of completing basic repairs and maintenance
- Proactive and able to spot what needs doing
- Health and safety conscious
- Organised and able to manage changing prioritiesFriendly, welcoming and comfortable around staff, children and visitors
- Keen to help and willing to get involved
- Able to work independently and as part of a supportive team
- Comfortable using basic email and digital systems
- Committed to safeguarding and maintaining a safe school environment
