Toshiba Europe Ltd have been at the forefront of research in quantum technology, particularly quantum communications and semiconductor quantum devices for the past two decades. During this time, they have made many breakthroughs, such as the first single and entangled photon LEDs, and the first GHz operation of 1550nm single photon avalanche diodes. We are inviting applications for a Research Scientist to join our team and advance the development of solid-state quantum emitters for next-generation quantum technologies.

The successful applicant will design, develop, and characterise quantum-emitter platforms and explore their integration into photonic systems. The role requires a strong understanding of light-matter interaction and hands-on experience with control of quantum emitters. Experience with spin-qubit physics, including coherent control and spin-photon interfacing, is highly desirable.

Responsibilities
  • Development and characterisation of solid-state quantum emitters
  • Investigation of spin-qubit properties
  • Development of software for experimental control and data acquisition
  • Build and maintain high-performance experimental setups
  • Engagement with academic and industrial partners, and dissemination through scientific publications
  • Working as part of a team, and with partners in academia and industry
Essential Requirements
  • PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Proven hands-on experience with at least one solid-state quantum-emitter platform (e.g., semiconductor quantum dots, colour centres, atomic-like defects, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of quantum optics and light-matter interaction
  • Experience with optical spectroscopy, emitter characterisation, or spin-qubit measurements
  • Experience in assembly and control of complex experimental systems
  • Good knowledge of computer control programming environments, e.g., LabVIEW/Python
  • Capability of both creative, independent work and working within an interactive team
  • Desire to acquire new skills and work with new technologies
Desirable Requirements
  • Experience with cryogenic or high vacuum technology
  • Knowledge of semiconductor device fabrication or nanophotonics
