We're looking for a
Technical Manager to join HMS at an exciting time of growth, leading the technical and design delivery of our residential development programme.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced technical professional to play a key role in delivering high-quality homes, creating thriving communities and supporting our ambition to make a positive difference through everything we do.
As a member of the HMS Leadership Team, you'll work closely with colleagues across Construction, Commercial and Development to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and compliantly throughout the development lifecycle.
Leading a team of Design Coordinators, Document Controllers and a Project Planner, you'll drive innovation, continuous improvement and technical excellence, helping to build a high-performing team that supports the successful delivery of homes our customers can be proud of.

What you'll be doing
- Leading the technical and design delivery of residential developments from tender stage through to completion and handover.
- Providing technical oversight and governance across multiple projects, ensuring designs are compliant, buildable, cost-effective and aligned with programme requirements.
- Managing technical risks and undertaking design reviews to identify and resolve issues at the earliest opportunity.
- Ensuring compliance with planning conditions, Building Regulations, CDM requirements, fire safety legislation, warranty standards and statutory approvals.
- Reviewing and approving drawings, specifications and technical information to maintain quality, consistency and compliance across all developments.
- Managing and coordinating external consultants, design teams and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered to programme, budget and quality expectations.
- Developing and monitoring design programmes to ensure technical information is delivered in line with project and construction milestones.
- Working collaboratively with Construction, Commercial and Development teams to support successful project delivery and achieve business objectives.
- Providing technical guidance and resolving design and construction challenges throughout the development lifecycle.
- Leading, motivating and developing a team of Design Coordinators, Document Controllers and a Project Planner, creating a culture of collaboration, team accountability and continuous improvement.
- Establishing and embedding technical processes, standards and controls that support consistency, compliance and operational excellence.
- Managing workloads, resources and technical budgets, whilst supporting future growth, innovation and business improvement initiatives across HMS.
What we're looking for
- HNC/HND or higher qualification (minimum Level 4) in a construction-related discipline.
- CSCS card or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in a senior Technical Manager, Design Manager or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of construction design technologies, technical delivery and design management.
- Experience managing multiple residential development projects and construction programmes.
- Sound knowledge of Building Regulations, CDM 2015, fire safety requirements and the Building Safety Act.
- Experience working with NHBC, LABC Warranty, Premier Guarantee or similar providers.
- Proven experience leading and developing technical teams and managing external consultants.
- Experience using Common Data Environments (CDEs) and digital construction management systems.
- Strong commercial awareness, financial governance and risk management skills.
- Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience within social housing, high-rise residential developments and knowledge of Auto CAD, Revit and BIM would be advantageous.
- Full UK driving licence and ability to travel across operational locations.

Interview Process
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview at our HMS Stonebridge Office on Thursday 17th September 2026.
The interview will consist of a presentation and a competency-based discussion, giving you the opportunity to demonstrate your technical knowledge, leadership experience and approach to delivering successful outcomes across residential development projects.
