We are looking for a skilled and customer‑focused Greenspace Operative to join HMS, part of the Torus Group. You’ll play a key role in delivering a high‑quality, efficient and responsive grounds and environmental maintenance service across our communities. Working across the North West region, you’ll carry out a wide range of horticultural, grounds maintenance and environmental tasks while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship, safety and customer care.This is a hands-on, outdoor role suited to someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in high standards, and has a strong customer-focused approach. This role requires travel across all sites in Liverpool, St Helens, and Warrington.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Carry out all aspects of grounds maintenance including grass cutting, pruning, strimming, weeding, spraying, litter picking and general horticultural tasks.
- Undertake wider environmental maintenance such as fly‑tipping removal, leaf collection, tree removal, winter gritting, groundworks, excavations, landscaping and planting.
- Operate and maintain ride‑on mowers, pedestrian mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers, blowers, spraying equipment and hand tools safely and efficiently.
- Plan and organise your workload effectively, making best use of time, plant, transport and materials to meet priority response times.
- Work within a scheduled appointment system, liaising directly with customers and colleagues to ensure smooth delivery of works.
- Diagnose issues, carry out pre‑measuring and determine maintenance requirements in line with contractual guidelines.
- Use IT and mobile devices to receive instructions, complete work orders, evidence works and order materials.
- Ensure accurate completion of all documentation and system updates, including legislative and professional requirements.
- Drive and maintain a company vehicle, stock and equipment responsibly.
- Manage materials efficiently, minimising waste and delays.
- Comply fully with Health & Safety requirements, safe systems of work and all statutory safety precautions.
- Participate in training, development and competency programmes.
- Work collaboratively with schedulers, planners, customer liaison officers, other HMS teams and contractors.
- Carry out other environmental duties as required and support continuous improvement of service delivery.

- Candidates will be invited to in‑person interviews which will include a competency‑based interview. Interviews will take place at our HMS Stonebridge Office on 29th July 2026.
