Right now, healthcare is full of people who care deeply, but they are weighed down by clunky systems preventing them from doing their job. Clinicians are spending up to half their day on documentation and admin instead of patients. TORTUS exists to change that. We've built an AI clinical co-pilot that listens, understands and writes in real time, turning exhausting paperwork into a background task. The result: more time, more focus and better care for clinicians and patients. We are the leading enterprise NHS AI documentation solution, already working with a number of NHS Trusts and having measurable impact. The foundations are in place. The next chapter is making sure the world knows what we've built, and that's where you come in.

The Role

We're looking for a Finance Director to become a core part of our leadership team at a pivotal moment. You'll be a strategic partner to the CEO, the person who gives the board confidence in our numbers, and the operational engine that keeps our finances running cleanly as we scale toward and through Series A. You’ll work closely with our commercial team to build reliable pipeline forecasting, oversee our outsourced finance function, and own everything from cash flow to board reporting. You’ll bring the kind of calm, pragmatic rigour that Founders trust when the stakes are high.

  • Board & CEO Partnership
  • Act as a trusted financial partner to the CEO, providing clear and timely insight to support rapid decision‑making
  • Own board‑level financial reporting; producing concise, investor‑grade packs covering financials, KPIs, risks, and strategic progress
  • Translate complex financial data into straightforward narratives that build confidence with investors and board members
  • Commercial Finance
    • Partner with the commercial team to build accurate, assumptions‑led pipeline forecasting that reflects the realities of long public sector sales cycles
    • Develop scenario models that account for variable deployment timelines, contract phasing, and revenue recognition
    • Standardise commercial contract terms where possible to improve cash flow predictability
  • Financial Planning & Analysis
    • Own the financial model; maintaining scenario capability, stress‑testing key assumptions, and ensuring it reconciles to actuals
    • Run a monthly forecasting and variance tracking process with clear accountability across team leads
    • Manage cash flow and runway with transparency, presenting multiple scenarios to leadership on an ongoing basis
    • Lead budgeting processes that are lightweight enough not to slow the business down, but rigorous enough to enable real control
  • Finance Operations
    • Manage our outsourced finance provider to ensure accurate bookkeeping, timely close processes, and clean reporting
    • Introduce sensible spend approval and procurement guidelines that protect cash without creating bureaucracy
    • Ensure R&D tax credit claims are optimised and VAT is managed accurately
  • Risk & Compliance
    • Maintain oversight of financial risk, including contractor agreements and insurance coverage
    • Establish governance rhythms appropriate for our stage and investor expectations

    What We’re Looking For

    • Proven experience as a Finance Director or comparable Senior Finance position, ideally within a startup or scale‑up environment
    • Background in healthtech, medtech, or a sector with complex, long‑cycle public sector revenue. You understand how to model and predict income that doesn’t follow a neat SaaS curve
    • Comfortable being the most senior Finance person in the business; you can think strategically and still roll up your sleeves when needed
    • Experience managing outsourced finance teams and holding external providers to a high standard
    • Strong financial modelling skills; you can build, stress‑test, and communicate a model that an investor will trust
    • A clear, confident communicator who can present to a board without jargon and challenge assumptions without friction
    • Fully qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)

    About TORTUS

Tortus was founded to address one of the most fundamental and persistent problems in healthcare: human error driven by cognitive overload and administrative burden. Modern clinicians are overwhelmed by documentation, compliance, and fragmented digital systems, leaving less time and attention for patient care. Our mission is to eliminate avoidable human error in medicine by augmenting clinicians with real‑time, agentic AI. An AI co‑pilot for every clinician. The core product is a real‑time AI system that operates inside live patient consultations. It transcribes and structures conversations, surfaces relevant clinical context and guidelines, and executes downstream actions such as documentation, prescribing workflows, and follow‑ups. Doctors and AI collaborate in real time, with the clinician always in control.

    Traction

    • 1.5M+ paid consultations processed
    • 10x year‑on‑year growth
    • Dozens of NHS hospitals deployed
    • 60–80% daily adoption when rolled out
    • 25% time savings per clinician
    • ~60% of UK primary care covered by our technology
    • Regulated medical device (Class I today, progressing to Class IIa)

    Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Healthcare serves everyone, so our team should too. We're committed to building a diverse, inclusive organisation where different perspectives are valued and heard. If our mission resonates with you but your experience doesn’t look “typical,” we still want you to consider applying.

    Finance Director employer: TORTUS

As a Finance Director, you will benefit from a culture that values collaboration, transparency, and personal growth, with ample opportunities for professional development as we scale towards Series A.
