At TORTUS we work with clinicians and hospitals to provide clinically safe and reliable AI. We use speech-to-text and LLM models to infer information about a patient visit and provide verified documentation and actions — eliminating the documentation burden that costs clinicians hours every day. We've recorded over 1 million consultations. Clients include London Ambulance Service and a large proportion of UK GP surgeries. We are now entering our next phase: an AI doctor product and a ~£30M Series A raise.
We are looking for product-minded engineers who care as much about the why as the how. You will be allocated to one of our product squads (AVT, Frontier, Foundation, or Lifeboat) based on fit, and will own meaningful surface area across the stack from day one.
What you'll do:
- Build and ship product features across the full stack in a fast-moving, regulated healthtech environment.
- Consume infrastructure via Foundation Squad Terraform modules; know when to reach for pubsub vs other patterns without necessarily authoring the modules.
- Collaborate closely with product and design — you have done this before and know how to work well cross-functionally.
- Contribute to engineering quality and our compliance posture (ISO 27001, ISO 13485).
What we're looking for:
- 2-5+ years of full-stack experience.
- Strong product instincts — you think about the why as much as the how.
- Frontend excellence: React, TypeScript.
- Backend proficiency: Node.js/NestJS or Python/FastAPI.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems patterns and when to apply them.
- Experience working alongside design functions and translating designs into high-quality product.
- Track record of shipping in production.
Nice to have:
- Experience in healthtech or regulated software.
- Experience with healthcare integrations (FHIR, HL7, EHR systems).
- Familiarity with Terraform or infrastructure-as-code.
- Experience with event-driven architectures.
What does wild success look like?
In 12–18 months, you are the engineer your squad relies on to get things over the line. You have shipped features that clinicians notice and talk about. You understand the compliance context well enough to make the right call without being asked. Your squad lead is thinking about what a more senior version of your role looks like.
Where does this role take you?
Strong engineers at TORTUS grow into tech lead or staff engineer roles as the squads scale, or move towards product engineering leadership. The regulated, high-stakes domain means the skills you build here are genuinely differentiated — and the impact is visible in how clinicians work every day.
Our stack: GCP · GKE · Terraform · GitOps & ArgoCD · PostgreSQL + Redis · TypeScript across the stack (React, NestJS) · Python/FastAPI for ML workloads · Pub/Sub for events · Self-hosted ML models.
