Torquay Watersports operates from Torquay, offering a range of unique experiences along the South Devon coastline. We run a fleet of RIBs including “Raptor,” a 12m RIB, and the UKs fastest RIB ride, designed for fast, exhilarating coastal tours. Torquay Watersports is also an RYA training school, delivering a variety of afloat and shore-based courses year-round. In addition to scheduled trips, we offer luxury private RIB charters to destinations such as Dartmouth and Salcombe.
Role Description
This is a seasonal contract, on-site Freelance Commercial Small Boat Skipper role based in Torquay. The skipper will safely operate RIBs for coastal tours, private charters, and commercial assignments in varying sea and weather conditions. Day-to-day tasks include vessel preparation and checks, route planning, safe navigation, and ensuring compliance with relevant maritime and company procedures. The role involves delivering engaging and informative commentary to customers and maintaining a high standard of customer care. The skipper will also assist with basic vessel maintenance, cleanliness, refueling, and accurate completion of logs and reports as required.

- Passionate about delivering excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to provide clear briefings and engaging commentary to a wide international audience.

- Passionate about wildlife and coastline history and geology (and keen to share this with passengers).
Qualifications
- Commercial small boat qualifications: RYA Advanced Powerboat or higher, commercially endorsed and proven experience skippering RIBs or similar craft.
- Strong safety, seamanship, and navigation skills, including familiarity with local waters, weather assessment, and emergency procedures.
- Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and peak seasons - delivering trips back to back.
- Current first aid certification.
- Previous experience in commercial charter, watersports, and knowledge of Work Boat Code 2/3 operations are an advantage.
