TORQ COMMODITIES is looking for a motivated and analytical Coffee Trader to join our dynamic trading team. In this role, you will be instrumental in sourcing green coffee for our European customers (with focus on German speaking countries) and managing spot inventories. You will develop and nurture strong relationships with our export partners, farmers, and specialty coffee roasters across Europe, ensuring the supply of premium coffees that meet our clients' exacting standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Source and purchase coffee from global producers, cooperatives, and exporters
  • Actively manage and optimize p&l of his/her own trading book
  • Identify and cultivate new business opportunities to expand our presence in the European coffee market
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with green beans roasters and customers
  • Understand customer needs and liaise effectively with quality assurance and origin teams
  • Collaborate with our offices to develop new and innovative coffee products tailored to European tastes
  • Participate actively in coffee selection and curation to ensure the highest quality offerings
  • Represent the company at industry events and trade exhibitions across Europe
  • Sell coffee to roasters, importers, and institutional clients in key markets
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, terms, and quality specifications
  • Manage trading positions, price exposure, and hedging strategies using futures/options
  • Monitor global coffee market trends, supply/demand dynamics, currency fluctuations, and macroeconomic drivers
  • Maintain strong relationships with producers, shipping agents, warehouses, and buyers
  • Oversee logistics, quality control, and documentation to ensure smooth delivery
  • Conduct market analysis to identify trends, pricing, and opportunities within the coffee sector
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and buyers to optimize trading operations
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels for efficient trading
  • Stay updated on industry developments, including regulations and quality standards
  • Collaborate with the logistics team to ensure timely and accurate delivery of products
  • Analyze trade performance and prepare reports for management
  • Engage with stakeholders to enhance the company's market presence

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Economics, Finance, or related field. A Master's or MBA is a plus
  • 3-7 years of proven experience in coffee or trading green beans. Or commodity trading (agricultural softs preferred). Senior trader with proven experience in green beans trading, able to migrate existing trading books
  • Strong consultative sales skills and relationship-building capabilities
  • Strong knowledge of global coffee markets, pricing mechanisms, and trading platforms
  • Experience in risk management, hedging strategies, and futures/options
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data and market signals
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Fluency in English and German
  • Willingness to travel internationally
