Role Overview
Torishima Europe is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its engineering team based in our European Headquarters in Glasgow. The successful candidate will be mainly responsible for assisting our Repair and Service department, who specialise in the overhaul and upgrade of industrial pumps and other rotating equipment. The candidate should have prior experience in a mechanical design/reverse engineering role, preferably within the pump industry. This is a diverse role, with opportunities for the candidate to get involved in a variety of projects, including international travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Torishima Repair and Service department with the reverse engineering and upgrade of pumps and pump components.
- Carry out Root Cause analysis to determine modes of failure and engineer potential solutions.
- Design of layouts, along with piping and structural components of systems.
- Producing drawing packages for manufacture and assembly of systems.
- Assist Sales and Tendering team in producing project documentation for submission to customers.
- Carry out calculations and analysis to relevant codes and standards to support design activities.
- Deliver engineering projects from concept to completion in accordance with client specifications and process design.
- Provide drawing packages in a timely manner.
- Adhere to Torishima Health and Safety procedures at all times.
- Travel to site to assist with engineering and sales activities, domestic and international.
Skills and Experience
- Minimum BEng Degree.
- Experience within a mechanical design or manufacturing role.
- Proficient using 3D modelling software (Preferably SolidWorks).
- Experience creating clear and precise 2D drawings for manufacture (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Comfortable using measuring equipment β micrometres, vernier gauges etc.
- Desirable - knowledge of rotating equipment, particularly centrifugal pumps.
- Desirable β experience using 3D Scanning equipment and software.
- Desirable β experience using FARO Arm for reverse engineering activities.
- Desirable β experience using CFD and FEA software.
- Ability to interpret and apply engineering standards and specifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work within a team.
