Torfaen Pupil Referral Unit opened in June 2009 to provide education for children and young people experiencing social, emotional, and / or behavioural difficulties, those who have been permanently excluded or are awaiting a managed move, or those whose anxiety or medical needs prevent them from attending school.
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the PRU to appoint a dynamic and inspiring L3 teaching assistant. The successful candidates must be resilient, creative and flexible with a desire to become key members of the school team. The role will include working under the guidance of the teaching staff and members of the School Leadership Team in order to support the delivery of the curriculum in KS3 and KS4.
You will work under guidance, to provide support in addressing the needs of students who need specific support to overcome barriers to learning. You will support individuals and groups of students to enable access to learning and assist the teacher to manage students within the classroom and beyond. Occasionally you will supervise whole classes during the teacher\βs short-term absence. Outreach work and contacting and visiting a mainstream school can also be part of this role
You will have a Level 3 NVQ for Teaching Assistants or an equivalent qualification. Patience, understanding, a caring attitude and the ability to provide support and build positive relationships are essential in this role.

As this is a term time post holidays must be taken during school closures. The appointment process will include an interview with members of the school\βs leadership team and a selection of Management Committee Members.
