Job description
Temporary Teacher of Science
Dear Prospective Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in the position of Temporary Science Teacher at Abersychan School. This is an important role within our school as we continue to improve provision and raise standards in Science. The Science Department is developing its provision to secure strong outcomes for students in the first instance, before progressing towards excellence. The new Curriculum Leader is committed to driving the department forward and building on its strengths.
Abersychan School is an 11-16 co-educational comprehensive school that meets the needs of students of all abilities. We are committed to ensuring that all our young people are happy, successful and ready for life beyond school. Our expectations and standards are high. We have a highly committed and caring staff who are dedicated to ensuring every child achieves their personal best. The school currently has 710 students, 40 teachers and 43 support staff. The school serves an area of significant socio-economic deprivation, with 31% of students eligible for free school meals and 51% living within the 20% most deprived areas of Wales.
The school's aims are delivered through a strong pastoral system, a commitment to providing high-quality learning experiences and an extensive range of sporting, cultural, musical and extra-curricular opportunities. Our students are happy, hardworking and positive about their school. They are a genuine asset to our community and are exceptionally friendly. We are fortunate to have highly supportive parents and governors who work in partnership with us to ensure every student receives the very best education. The school has been widely commended for the significant improvements made to behaviour and wellbeing, and we continue to strive for the highest standards through outstanding provision.
The staff body at Abersychan School is a hardworking and dynamic team with a shared vision that all students experience the highest quality teaching and learning and achieve their full potential. The school is well resourced with digital teaching technologies, including interactive whiteboards, visualisers and Chromebooks. Provision for the development of students' skills is underpinned by strong leadership, a coherent curriculum model and a clear strategic vision.
We are seeking an exceptional individual with the energy, drive, resilience and commitment to join us at this important stage of our improvement journey. If you are excited by the prospect of playing a significant role in realising the school's ambitions and have an unrelenting belief that all students can achieve, regardless of background or ability, we would be delighted to hear from you. In return, I can personally guarantee you the highest levels of support and professional development.
Please do not hesitate to contact ruth.bassett@abersychanschool.co.uk should you wish to discuss the role further or arrange a visit to the school.
