Job description
Do you want to work in one of the most exciting Early Years environments in Wales?
Do you believe that young children learn best through play, relationships, curiosity, creativity and meaningful first-hand experiences?
Are you passionate about Early Years education and excited by the opportunity to help shape a distinctive Froebelian approach within a highly ambitious Federation?
If so, we would love to hear from you.
The Federation of Blenheim Road Community and Coed Eva Primary Schools is seeking an exceptional Reception teacher to join our team at Coed Eva Primary School.
We are looking for someone who is knowledgeable about Early Years practice but also intellectually curious about it. Someone who understands that excellent Early Years pedagogy is highly intentional without needing to be heavily adult-directed. Someone who is excited by the opportunity to work within a developing Froebelian approach, contribute their own thinking, learn alongside colleagues and help us continue to build genuinely distinctive, developmentally appropriate provision for our youngest learners.

Froebel Trust | Froebelian Practice Across Primary School
A Federation with a clear purpose
In everything we do:
- We grow thriving, successful learners.
- We lead our people to excellence.
- We change our community and country for the better.
Our Federation is unique in Wales. We strive for:
- the highest levels of achievement;
- the highest levels of wellbeing;
- the most effective family and community engagement; and
- the strongest preparation for the future;
for every member of our school community, all of the time.
What makes Early Years practice within our Federation distinctive?
Our Early Years provision is:
- Strongly rooted in Froebelian principles, with relationships, play, creativity, nature and first-hand experiences at the heart of learning.
- Built upon a slow, responsive pedagogy that values depth, repetition and sustained thinking rather than constant adult-led activity.
- Driven by what we notice about children, balanced with curriculum progression and rich experiences we believe every child deserves.
- Designed around calm, open-ended environments that support independence, fascinations, schemas and meaningful play.
- Rich in authentic experiences such as cooking, clay, woodwork, sewing, construction and seasonal outdoor learning.
- Focused on developing dispositions such as curiosity, confidence, perseverance, creativity and collaboration alongside knowledge and skills.
- Committed to meaningful and developmentally appropriate approaches to literacy and mathematics through approaches such as Read Write Inc. and White Rose Maths.
- Deeply connected to belonging, culture, family and community.
Our Early Years team engages in regular bespoke professional learning rooted in observation, research, reflection and the needs of the children in our care.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Warm, nurturing and highly relational.
- Passionate about creating a strong sense of belonging for every child.
- Curious about children's thinking and interested in the meaning behind their play, behaviours and choices.
- Reflective, open-minded and eager to develop their practice.
- Calm and patient, allowing learning to unfold whilst knowing when and how to intervene effectively.
- Creative, resourceful and responsive.
- Inclusive and child-centred, with high expectations for all learners.
We would particularly value someone who has:
- A strong understanding of child development and how young children learn through play, movement, exploration and relationships.
- Secure knowledge of Curriculum for Wales and developmentally appropriate practice.
- Experience of observation-led and responsive planning.
- An understanding of schemas and how children's repeated patterns of play can inform provision.
- Strong knowledge of early communication, language, literacy and mathematical development.
- Experience of, or willingness to learn, Read Write Inc.
- The ability to use a Notice - Analyse - Respond approach to planning.
- A commitment to creating rich environments that act as a "third teacher".
- The confidence to balance child-initiated learning with intentional teaching.
- The ability to document and celebrate learning meaningfully.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
