Job description

Thank you for your interest in applying for the position of Caretaker Technician at Abersychan School. Our school site comprises a diverse range of buildings, facilities and operating systems, with the oldest building dating back to 1914. In recent years, the school has secured significant investment to develop and refurbish many areas of the premises. From a sporting perspective, these improvements include a state-of-the-art 3G pitch, netball courts, changing rooms, sports hall and dance studio. These facilities are extensively used by both students and the wider community.

As a result, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate flexibility, initiative and a willingness to develop new skills. The role will require participation in relevant training and accreditation, including health and safety, property maintenance, machinery operation and MiDAS training, to ensure the school continues to provide a safe, efficient and welcoming environment for all users of the site.

Abersychan School is an 11-16 co-educational comprehensive school which meets the needs of children of all abilities. We are a school that is committed to ensuring that all our young people are happy, successful and ready for their lives beyond school. Our expectations and standards are high. We have a highly committed and caring staff who are dedicated to ensuring each child achieves their personal best. The school currently has 710 students, 40 teachers and 43 members of support staff. The school serves an area of significant socio-economic deprivation, with 31% of students eligible for free school meals and 51% of students living within the 20% most deprived areas of Wales.

The aims of the school are delivered through a strong pastoral system, a commitment to providing high quality learning experiences and an extensive range of sporting, cultural, musical and extracurricular activities. The students are happy, hard-working and positive about the school. They genuinely are an asset to our community and are incredibly friendly. They want to receive a high-quality education and to become successful students. We have fantastic parents and governors who are highly supportive of the school's efforts to provide the very best education.

Should you wish to receive further information or would like to visit the school, please do not hesitate to contact Business Manager, David Williamson-Dicken, via David.Williamson-Dicken@abersychanschool.co.uk .
