This vacancy is only available to Torfaen County Borough Council (TCBC) employees and agency workers currently engaged with TCBC.Torfaen County Borough Council is seeking to recruit a highly motivated, experienced and enthusiastic Senior Environmental Health Officer to join our Housing Safety and Environmental Protection Team.This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Environmental Health Officer to take a leading role in delivering housing safety and environmental protection services that have a direct and lasting impact on communities across Torfaen. As the Lead Officer for Housing Safety, you will provide technical leadership, operational oversight and professional guidance within a multidisciplinary team, including mentoring and supporting the development of trainees, graduate Environmental Health Officers and colleagues. You will help ensure the effective delivery of high-quality regulatory and enforcement services. The role offers the opportunity to support the Council's ambitions through the Torfaen Deal and play a key role in delivering the Marmot Principles in practice, improving living conditions, protecting public health and helping to reduce health inequalities across the borough. The role requires an experienced Environmental Health Officer who can confidently manage complex and potentially confrontational situations, exercise sound professional judgement and apply proportionate enforcement action where necessary. The successful candidate will have significant experience of applying environmental health legislation and regulatory procedures, excellent investigative, analytical and problem-solving skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. They will also have experience of providing technical guidance, mentoring and support to colleagues, alongside a commitment to partnership working, customer service and continuous improvement.
