Salary: £12.32 (paid at £13.47 after the initial 12 week period with increments of pay added annually)

Responsibilities:

  • Driving waste vehicles around Torfaen and assisting with the collection of waste.
  • Carrying out Waste collection services as agreed with your Supervisor.
  • Conducting job chats on a yearly basis to establish your crew’s needs.
  • Distributing promotional literature as required.
  • Liaising with the Waste Awareness Officer/Enforcement Officer regarding non-compliance by residents.
  • Monitoring the performance of your crew daily and reporting issues to your Supervisor.
  • Contributing to raising public awareness of the twin bin scheme and other waste initiatives.
  • Identifying and providing assistance for members of the public with waste separation difficulties.
  • Conducting regular audits of waste receptacles collected by your team and relaying information to your Supervisor.
  • Gaining an accredited professional award as determined by Management.
  • Working with the Education Officer, involving school visits and road shows to interact with students and residents.
  • Working in a safe manner ensuring all protective clothing is worn.
  • Adhering to the Council's Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Working within the Council's policies and procedures.

Experience:

  • Educated to GCSE level.
  • Must hold a Full Clean UK Driving Licence HGV cat C.
  • Experience in the field of Refuse/Recycling collections.
  • Proven supervisory experience.
  • Proven knowledge in the delivery of refuse/recycling.
  • Ability to provide practical and creative solutions to refuse/recycling issues.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Effective communicator with good interpersonal skills.
  • Customer care skills when dealing with the public.
  • Able to deal positively and objectively with conflict.
