Assistant Director: Integrated Community Support - £89,862 - £103,472

What if local government didn’t wait for crises, and instead focused relentlessly on helping people live healthier, safer and more fulfilling lives before a crisis emerged?

In Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent, that’s exactly what we’re doing.

As Wales’ first and only federated councils, we’re organising our efforts around five shared Missions focused on reducing inequality, increasing independence and improving life chances. We believe prevention should sit at the heart of public services. That’s why we’re building a model that identifies need earlier, strengthens community resilience, delivers targeted support and tackles the root causes of poor outcomes rather than simply managing their consequences.

This brand new role sits at the centre of that ambition. You will lead a portfolio including housing, homelessness prevention, community safety, anti-social behaviour, employability, adult and community learning, family support and wider preventative services. Together, these services have enormous potential to improve wellbeing and create better futures for residents.

We’re looking for an ambitious and values-driven leader who can build high-performing teams. While you may not have worked across every service area, you’ll have a strong track record of delivering improvement in complex organisations and partnerships.

If you believe public services can do more to tackle inequality, strengthen communities and improve life chances, we’d love to hear from you.

Closing date: Wednesday 2 December 2026.
