Are you an experienced Building Surveyor looking to join a respected, multi-disciplinary practice with a strong reputation in the MOD and Defence sector? We’re looking for a Building Surveyor to join our established team, working on a range of challenging and meaningful projects across the Defence Estate. You’ll carry out site surveys and inspections across the North West of England — ideally based around Manchester, Leeds or nearby — while being fully supported by our wider technical teams in Portsmouth and Monmouth. When not on site, you’ll be home-based, with access to a strong collaborative network and the professional development opportunities of a growing national consultancy.
What You’ll Be Doing:- Conduct building surveys, condition assessments and defect analysis across MOD, Defence, Housing Association and Commercial sites.
- Provide professional advice on property and construction, including alterations, refurbishments, renovations, and extensions (including Listed Buildings).
- Prepare and review technical drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
- Support project delivery within agreed budgets, timescales, and quality standards.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and planning authorities, ensuring full compliance with sustainability, safety, and preservation standards.
- Undertake Condition Surveys, Schedules of Condition, and Quadrennial Inspections.
- Assist in managing Health & Safety and regulatory compliance during project delivery.
- Work closely with internal design teams — Architects, Engineers, and Project Managers — to ensure cohesive project outcomes.
- Proven experience delivering design and construction projects, typically in the £1M–£5M range.
- Strong understanding of sector standards (or similar complex infrastructure).
- Good all-round knowledge of design and construction processes using British, European, and international standards.
- Chartered or Associate Member of RICS (MRICS / FRICS / AssocRICS) — or working towards qualification would be highly desirable.
- Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to travel across the North West for site surveys and client meetings.
- Salary £40,000 - £50,000, depending on experience and qualification level.
- All travel expenses covered.
