We're working with a growing multi-disciplinary design & build consultancy looking to appoint a commercially-minded Building Surveyor who can combine technical expertise with client relationship management across a portfolio of long-standing and strategically important accounts. This is not a traditional Building Surveying role focused purely on surveys and reports, nor is it a sales-driven Key Account Manager position. Instead, it's a unique opportunity for someone who understands the built environment, project delivery and professional consultancy services, whilst also enjoying the client-facing side of the business.
The ideal candidate will be AssocRICS or MRICS qualified with a Building Surveying background gained within commercial property, construction consultancy, public sector, defence, MOD or infrastructure environments. Due to the nature of the projects and client base, candidates will typically have experience gained within commercial property, construction consultancy, public sector, defence, MOD or infrastructure environments rather than purely residential surveying disciplines.
The business delivers projects across Building Surveying, Architecture, Mechanical & Electrical Design, Civil & Structural Engineering, BIM, AutoCAD & Revit Design, Building Services and MOD/ Defence sectors, so the successful candidate will need to be comfortable operating within a multi-disciplinary environment and engaging with both technical teams and senior client stakeholders. They would also consider an experienced Project Manager with a strong design, construction and consultancy background who can demonstrate a solid understanding of project delivery, technical disciplines and stakeholder management within complex built environment projects.
This is a relationship-led position where you'll become a trusted advisor to clients, helping to identify opportunities, coordinate internal delivery teams and ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards.
The Role
- Manage and develop a portfolio of key client accounts
- Act as the primary point of contact for major clients and stakeholders
- Build long-term relationships with client-side property, estates and project teams
- Work closely with Building Surveyors, Architects, Engineers and Design Teams to coordinate service delivery
- Support the development of project briefs, specifications and delivery strategies
- Maintain oversight of project performance, client expectations and commercial outcomes
- Identify opportunities for additional services and project work within existing accounts
- Attend client meetings, project reviews and strategic account discussions
- Ensure projects are delivered in line with contractual, technical and operational requirements
- Support the continued growth of existing client relationships across multiple disciplines
What They're Looking For
- AssocRICS or MRICS qualified Building Surveyor (preferred)
- Experience gained within commercial property, construction consultancy, public sector, MOD, defence, infrastructure or project-led environments
- Alternatively, an experienced Project Manager with a strong construction, design and consultancy background
- Strong understanding of commercial buildings, refurbishment projects, stakeholder management and multi-disciplinary consultancy services
- Strong understanding of project delivery, specifications, refurbishment, design and construction processes
- Comfortable working alongside Architects, Engineers, Surveyors and other technical disciplines
- Excellent client-facing, stakeholder management and communication skills
- Commercially aware with the ability to spot opportunities whilst maintaining trusted relationships
- Able to operate confidently within complex project and programme environments
What's On Offer
- £60,000 – £80,000 depending on experience and background
- Flexible remuneration structure with scope for performance-related bonus
- Hybrid working with flexibility around client and project commitments
- Genuine long-term progression within a growing consultancy
- Opportunity to play a key role in shaping strategic client relationships
- Exposure to complex, high-profile projects across commercial, public sector and defence environments
- Supportive leadership team with autonomy, trust and room to make the role your own
Due to the nature of some projects, applicants will need to be eligible to obtain UK security clearance.
