We are looking for a Construction Estimator to join a successful and established multi-disciplinary design & build consultancy, based in Portsmouth (hybrid working available). You’ll play a key role in project planning, ensuring budgets are accurate and competitive while working closely with a bid manager, project managers, engineers, and stakeholders.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates by analysing blueprints, specifications, and project documentation.
- Work with project managers and engineers to gather essential information for accurate estimates.
- Conduct market research to assess material costs and labour rates.
- Monitor project costs, providing updates and cost control recommendations.
- Assist in the development of project budgets and financial forecasts.
- Maintain an organised database of past estimates to improve future accuracy.
- Build and manage a database of approved sub-contractors.
- Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and techniques to refine estimating processes.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience as an Estimator or in a similar role within construction or manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of cost control principles and estimating practices.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills with a high level of accuracy.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for clear project discussions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (essential).
- A degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field (desirable).
