We are supporting a well‑established, multi‑disciplinary engineering and design consultancy that is seeking a Freelance BIM Manager to take ownership of BIM delivery across a portfolio of secure projects. This is a newly created contract role, initially offered on a minimum 6‑month basis, with a strong likelihood of extension depending on programme requirements. Ideally, you will be able to attend the Portsmouth office when required, however candidates located anywhere across the M4 corridor will be considered, provided they can travel as needed for key meetings and onsite with clients. Due to the nature of the work, candidates should already hold UK Security Clearance (SC). Those who have previously held clearance, or are willing and eligible to obtain it, will also be considered. Please note that due to certain security requirements, the candidate must be a UK Citizen.
The Role
- As BIM Manager, you will be responsible for the overall management, coordination, and governance of BIM processes, ensuring consistent, compliant and secure information delivery across all project stages.
- You will act as the BIM authority, working closely with engineers, designers, project managers and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with project, client and regulatory requirements.
- Lead and manage BIM strategy and delivery across multiple MOD and Defence projects.
- Act as the primary point of contact for all BIM‑related matters.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 19650 standards, information management protocols, and client requirements.
- Oversee BIM Execution Plans (BEPs), model management plans and information workflows.
- Coordinate BIM activities across architectural, structural, MEP and civil disciplines.
- Manage model federation, clash detection, coordination reviews and issue resolution.
- Monitor model quality, accuracy, security and data integrity.
- Control model changes and revisions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure secure handling of project data in line with security policies and procedures.
- Support tender submissions (PQQ/SQ/ITT) from a BIM and digital delivery perspective.
- Liaise with clients, contractors and stakeholders to ensure consistent BIM delivery.
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience operating at BIM Manager level on complex construction or infrastructure projects.
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 19650, information management and document control principles.
- Extensive experience with Autodesk Revit, Navisworks and BIM 360 / ACC.
- Confident managing BIM delivery in multi‑disciplinary environments.
- Excellent coordination, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong understanding of BIM within regulated, secure project environments.
- Full UK Driving Licence and able to travel across the Southern region.
- UK Security Clearance (SC) held, previously held, or willingness to obtain.
- Experience working within highly regulated design and construction environments.
- Knowledge of construction methods, sequencing and digital handover requirements.
- Familiarity with VDC processes and Common Data Environments (CDEs).
