Mechanical Design Engineer – Multi-Disciplinary Design Consultancy
Location: Portsmouth / Monmouth / UK-wide with travel | Salary: £40,000 – £65,000 basic + Bonus + Car Allowance + Benefits

Our offices are based in Portsmouth and Monmouth, but we are open to applications from individuals located anywhere in the UK, provided you can travel to office locations or client sites when required.
Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer with a background in the built environment, construction or building services? Are you looking for a permanent role within a highly respected multidisciplinary design consultancy during a period of significant growth and opportunity?
We’re currently looking for passionate and technically capable Mechanical Design Engineers to join our inhouse Mechanical & Electrical Engineering team, working with high value, secure MOD and Government projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in complex mechanical systems design and a strong understanding of building services and construction environments.
Please note: Due to the nature of our projects, candidates must be UK-based with full right to work, and will be required to obtain a level of Security Clearance (SC) – though this is not required to start.
Open to Mid–Senior Level Engineers:
We are considering applications from mid to senior-level professionals, and the salary offered will be based on your level of experience and knowledge. Top-end salaries are available for highly experienced or Chartered Engineers.
Role Overview:
- Undertake full mechanical design responsibilities across HVAC, comfort cooling, heating, and DHW systems.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues across M&E, architecture, surveying, and engineering teams.
- Produce project specifications, mechanical design documents and outline proposals.
- Attend client meetings, engage in design reviews, and support project delivery from concept through to completion.
- Prepare SBEM calculations and support energy-efficient designs.
- Lead or contribute to BIM processes (experience in Revit is advantageous).
- Mentor junior engineers and support professional development of others.
- Work across a varied portfolio of public sector buildings and defence infrastructure.
Key Skills & Experience:
- HNC (minimum) in Building Services or Mechanical Engineering.
- Chartered or working towards CIBSE membership (advantageous).
- Demonstrated experience with mechanical design across £1–5M+ construction projects.
- Software proficiency in AutoCAD (essential), with Revit and Hevacomp being highly desirable.
- Understanding of SBEM, HVAC, public health engineering, BMS/controls, and drainage systems.
- Familiarity with project collaboration tools (e.g. MS Project, MS Office Suite).
- Excellent client-facing communication skills and ability to work in collaborative project teams.
Candidate Requirements:
- Full UK Right to Work and eligibility for Security Clearance.
- Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel as required.
- Strong communication, time management and problem-solving skills.
