Job Description

Creative Digital Media Practitioner - Alternative ProvisionBased at our studios in Paignton

We're looking for a creative, proactive practitioner who has worked in education settings, ideally with young people (Key Stage 3 and above) who have SEMH needs or face multiple disadvantages.

You'll deliver our creative digital media programme across Torbay and South Devon. That includes mainstream and special schools, community centres and events, justice settings and our own alternative provision.

You'll have real depth in at least one area and curiosity about the others. Those areas are music production, film, photography, graphic design, web design, coding, digital electronics and live sound. We're especially keen to strengthen our film, design and web/digital skills.

Sound Communities works as one connected organisation, so you can also get involved beyond your core delivery. That could mean community sessions, prison and probation work, early intervention in schools, employability projects, holiday programmes, or our production arms: Ocean Youth Radio, Oceanside Records, Ocean Creative and Sound Alive. There may be project management opportunities as we grow.

Safeguarding is central to this role. You'll join a supportive team that is equally committed to young people's welfare.

Requirements

  • Leadership skills, including the ability to motivate, inspire and coach colleagues
  • Experience of monitoring and evaluation
  • Ability to play and teach musical instruments
  • Knowledge of, or training in, trauma-informed approaches
  • Experience of managing projects
  • Tact, diplomacy and good humour in challenging situations
  • Understanding of SEN provision and EHCPs
  • Experience of formulating alternative, creative curriculum plans
  • Experience working at primary and secondary level
