Torbay Council's Corporate Safety Team has an exciting opportunity to lead fire safety within South Devon. If you have extensive experience in delivering successful fire safety and want a challenging and rewarding career look no further. Torbay Council has a wide portfolio of assets including offices, historic buildings, depots, commercial assets and residential accommodation.

Working closely with contractors, service managers and our Property Services team, you will be responsible for producing effective fire risk assessment programmes, policies and procedures to ensure legal standards are maintained and that a positive fire safety culture is embedded in all our activities. This position is for a fixed term of 24 months from the start date. This post meets the requirements for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check. This will show spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions which have not been filtered in line with legislation, plus any information held by local Police that is considered relevant to the role.

Skills
  • Excellent investigative, inspection and auditing skills.
  • Comprehensive report writing and data generation skills.
  • Well developed assessment skills to enable prompt and effective evaluation of proposed mitigations and works.
  • Ability to elicit information in a variety of formats to allow a robust assessment of risk.
  • This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
Knowledge
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Electronic Fire / H&S Management systems and their application in the management of Fire Safety.
  • Extensive knowledge of Fire Risk Assessment, including the production of competent reports, accurate records and effective mitigation strategies.
  • Full understanding of the “competent person” role under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
  • Extensive knowledge in the application of British Standards applicable to Fire.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Level 4 qualification in Fire Safety.
  • Extensive experience of delivering High Level Fire Safety Management within a large or complex organisation.
  • Use of electronic systems in the management and prioritisation of risk.
  • Proven ability to be creative, using innovative approaches to secure engagement and promote good practice and legal compliance.
