The predicted salary is between 28600 - 31000 £ per year.

The primary purpose of this role is to register Births, Deaths, Marriages and Civil Partnerships, carrying out all associated duties in full compliance with the Registration Acts. Additional duties include conducting Marriage and Civil Partnership ceremonies at the Torbay Register Office and at Approved Premises across Torbay. Ceremony duties include weekday, weekend and bank holiday working on a rota basis. Birth and Death registrations will take place at Torbay Register Office, Paignton.

Key Responsibilities

  • Register births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships in accordance with legislation.
  • Conduct marriage and civil partnership ceremonies at the register office and Approved Premises across Torbay.
  • Carry out full ceremony administration, including preparation of schedules, checklists, notices for couples and post ceremony processing.
  • Issue certificates from the archives, ensuring accurate retrieval, checking and production in line with statutory requirements.

Hours

This post is contracted for 7.40 hours per week, worked on a Friday. There may also be opportunities for additional flexible hours Monday to Thursday, depending on service needs.

Security Check

This post meets the requirements of the Public Services Network (PSN) and therefore will require a Basic Criminal Record Check. This will show any unspent convictions and conditional cautions.

Skills (Essential)

  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Experience of customer focused, face to face environment.
  • Ability to deal with people at all levels in a tactful, diplomatic and confident manner.
  • Ability to deal with distressed/bereaved/emotional people.
  • Ability to handle confidential information sensitively.

This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.

Knowledge (Essential)

  • Knowledge and practical experience of Microsoft including Teams, Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of handling confidential information and applying Data Protection.
  • A good standard of written English.

Experience & Qualifications (Essential)

  • Educated to GCSE or equivalent to include English and Mathematics.
  • Experience in working as part of a team.
  • Public speaking.
  • Good time keeping.
  • Record keeping and inputting data with attention to detail.
