Compensation: £42,839 - £46,142 / year

We are looking for a motivated and detail-focused Information Governance professional to join our Information Governance Team on a 2-year fixed term contract. Reporting to the Head of Information Governance and DPO, you will be the Data Protection Lead within the service supporting the delivery of high-quality information governance and data protection services. You will help support the Council deliver a wide range of change projects as well as strengthening our compliance with relevant legislation, national standards and organisational policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing high-quality, expert advice on data protection matters to all staff across the Council.
  • Assessing data protection risks and reviewing Data Protection Impact Assessments.
  • Maintaining our Information Asset Register.
  • Supporting incident management and contributing to audits, reporting and assurance activities.
  • Delivering training, guidance and awareness so staff understand their responsibilities.
  • Investigating complaints from members of the public in relation to data protection matters.
  • Liaising with the Information Commissioner’s Office where appropriate.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the Council to enable compliant, proportionate and service-focused IG solutions.
  • Deputising for the Head of Information Governance and Data Protection Officer as required.

Qualifications Essential Skills and Experience

  • Ability to interpret, collate, analyse and effectively present information from a variety of sources.
  • Skilled at problem resolution involving complex problems in many areas.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills including the ability to convey information accurately and clearly to both staff and customers when explaining complicated issues.
  • Ability to prioritise and balance a varied workload and deliver outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Experience of working in a large organisation, dealing with multiple enquiries and tasks simultaneously in a timely manner.
  • Educated to a degree level in a relevant subject or an equivalent level of experience.
  • Fluency in spoken English with confidence and fluency in communication.

Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of Data Protection Legislation.

Contract Details

This position is a fixed term of 23 months from the start date. The role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
