We have an exciting opportunity for a successful candidate to join Torbay Council’s Housing Standards and Environmental Protection team as an Environmental Health Officer/Housing Specialist (Housing Standards Supervisor). You will be working with a team who are dedicated and passionate about protecting the health, safety and welfare of Torbay’s residents. By delivering a full range of Housing interventions, as described in the Job Description, you will contribute to making Torbay a healthy, happy and prosperous place for all.

We are seeking an experienced, suitably qualified, dynamic and forward-thinking individual with the technical skills to deliver both traditional, creative and newly established Housing interventions whilst supporting the team in their day to day work and development, taking a lead responsibility. This post meets the requirements for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check. This will show spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions which have not been filtered in line with legislation, plus any information held by local Police that is considered relevant to the role.

Knowledge (Essential):
- Up to date knowledge of housing legislation.
- A broad understanding of the role the private rented sector plays in meeting housing need.
- Working knowledge of housing standards, inspection techniques and notice preparation and enforcement.
- Working knowledge of HMO licensing schemes.
Experience & Qualifications (Essential):
- Able to demonstrate effective work programme delivery through co-ordination of work.
- Experience of property inspection and the preparation of schedules of work.
- Degree/Diploma in Environmental Health (or alternative relevant qualification).
