Are you interested in making a difference to the lives of children and parents/carers living in Torbay? We have several vacant positions for Home to School Transport Passenger Assistants. This is primarily a term-time-only position.

As a Passenger Assistant, you would typically be required to be available from around 7.15am/7.30am to 9.15am/9.30am and 2.15pm/2.30pm to 4.30pm/4.45pm, Monday to Friday, to support school transport runs throughout the Bay. You will usually be picked up from and dropped off at your home by the transport provided (bus or taxi) when undertaking Passenger Assistant duties. You will need to be flexible, dedicated and sensitive to the individual needs of the children, providing reassurance and practical support.

You will communicate effectively with parents/carers, the Home to School Transport Team, school representatives and drivers to ensure the safety of the children and the smooth running of each route. In addition to core Passenger Assistant duties, the role also includes supporting children and young people to develop the skills needed to travel as independently as possible through Independent Travel Training (ITT). This means that flexibility is essential, as ITT duties may take place at different times during the school day and, in some cases, during school holidays. When carrying out ITT, you will be required to travel to the child’s home or agreed meeting point rather than being collected by transport. A bus pass will be provided for ITT activities, and travel expenses (such as petrol allowance) will be reimbursed in line with council policy.

This is a rolling advert for Home to School Passenger Assistants. If you feel this role is suitable for you, we look forward to receiving your application.
