Theatre Healthcare Support Worker

As a Healthcare Support Worker at Torbay Hospital, you\’ll help patients during their stay with us by making sure they get the quality care & support they deserve.
You will support the Day Surgery Unit teams to deliver safe and high-quality care to all our patients, being adaptable and responsive in order to provide a service that is tailored to meet the needs of the individual.
We provide a variety of care pathways in Day Surgery meaning there are plenty of learning opportunities and further training! #CaretojoinusTSD
Main duties of the job
Working as part of a team to ensure a safe pathway for the patient during there perioperative pathway including preparing theatre, organising kit and supporting the patient.
You will:
- escort patients from the waiting room to theatres
- ensure kit is ready and available as required by the scrub nurse and surgeon
- accurately maintain records as required
- ensure the theatre is clean tidy and fit for purpose

Our Day surgery has three theatres, one procedure room, two primary recovery areas and the main ward.
We will be expanding to incorporate another theatre and larger recovery and pre assessment area.
Unfortunately, in line with the Home Office standards, this post is not eligible for sponsorship.
Job responsibilities
The unit is open Monday to Friday 08:00 – 21:00 and your shift patterns will generally operate between 08:00 – 18:00 although this could change subject to service needs.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent qualification/experience
- Care Certificate
- English & Mathematics at GCSE grade A-C (9-4) or level 2 functional skills
Knowledge and experience
- Previous experience in a care environment or able to demonstrate a caring nature/ life experience
- Understands the need for strict confidentiality
- Working knowledge of complex care needs of some individuals/families including Safeguarding Children & Adults, Domestic Abuse and Mental Health
Specific skills
- Basic computer/keyboard skills
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Able to prioritise and organise work
